summary

The primary role of the Preconstruction Engineer is to assist the Preconstruction Manager in putting together project budgets and lump sum bid proposals, embodying the core values of drive, trust, ideas, and build. In this capacity, the PE collaborates with internal and external team members to ensure accurate and timely proposals are delivered, maintaining positive relationships across the project team and supporting departments.

key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction Manager to develop accurate and detailed budgets for construction projects, demonstrating a drive for precision and efficiency
  • Assist in the preparation of lump sum bid proposals by gathering and analyzing project data, including drawings, materials, and subcontractor costs, while fostering trust and reliability
  • Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents, leveraging innovative ideas to optimize cost estimates
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather necessary information for budgeting and bidding purposes, fostering a collaborative environment built on trust
  • Coordinate bidding and budgeting information and walkthroughs with subcontractor partners, demonstrating effective communication and team-building skills
  • Support the Preconstruction Manager in conducting value engineering analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities, contributing creative ideas to enhance      project efficiency
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to preconstruction activities, embodying a commitment to continuous learning and improvement

qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two or more years of experience in a construction management or engineering field
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools, showcasing a drive for technical proficiency
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, reflecting a commitment to collaboration and individual initiative
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods, demonstrating a solid foundation built on trust and expertise.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, leveraging technical skills to drive accurate project assessment.
  • Proficiency in using construction estimating software and tools such as On-Screen Takeoff, showcasing a drive for technological innovation.
  • Strong computer skills as well as familiarity with programs offered by Microsoft Office, reflecting a commitment to leveraging technology for efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, demonstrating a commitment to precision and excellence.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, embodying a culture of ideas and innovation.

physical demands

  • Ability to remain in a seated position for the majority of the day while in home office (between 70% - 100% of work time) operating a computer, phone and other office equipment i.e., a copier and computer printer (between 70% -100% of work time)
  • Ability to lift or move supplies, equipment, boxes, documents and materials weighing up to 40lbs (occasionally heavier than 40lbs) in office suite and/or at work sites (i.e. vendor sites, client sites, etc.)
  • Must be able to communicate via phone, email, and in-person with colleagues and professional contacts(i.e. vendors, support service providers, etc.) for the majority of the day (between 70% -100% of worktime)

  • Regular communication with internal and external constituents is required, including occasionally
    outside of regular working hours.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction and/or company sponsorship.

Working Conditions & Environment

  • May be required to work beyond office hours – some nights and weekends – as required by the needs
    of the department and this position as well as the needs of the organization.
  • Must be able to commute as required from office to job-site locations located within a 100-mile radius
    from office as required. Reference employee handbook regarding mileage reimbursement.
